Why is Lacrosse one of the fastest growing sports?
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in America right now and for the life of me I don't understand why it has taken this long to catch on. Harvard beat Princeton in the first tournament back in 1881 and just now we are seeing the major corporations paying attention to the sport. Here's why the sport is growing so fast.
1. High Scoring Games: In lacrosse more often than not, both teams will score ten or more goals in a game. This keeps people interested and invested in the game and allows teams to make giant rolling comebacks and huge scoring swings.
2. Extremely Violent: If people would just take one god damn second to watch a Lacrosse game they'd realize its just as violent if not more violent than other sports. You have vicious open field hits at top speeds, you have fighting, and you have a metal pole in your hand similar to a cops night stick that you are allowed to use to beat other players with. Goalies in lacrosse are not excluded or protected from other players outside the crease. Lacrosse Superstars like the Gate Brothers, Powell Brothers, Rabil etc. etc. are some of the toughest players in the league unlike other sports.
3. Lacrosse is Cool: Lacrosse's Swagger has been sort of a confused identity until recently. Lacrosse players in the past twenty years are becoming more and more like football and hockey players and less and less like soccer players. The attitude of Lacrosse is now badass. Reebok, Nike, UnderArmour are allowing the public to finally see how tough lacrosse is.
If you think I'm wrong about this, go watch ANY lacrosse highlight video on YouTube. You'll get hooked.
